能夠發現Calendar Girl (本名為Tamara Barnett-Herrin) 與她創新的音樂創作概念純屬偶然，這位來自英國倫敦的獨立音樂人從2006年10月開始她的Calendar Songs Project。Tamara每個月從發生在自己周遭的事件汲取創作靈感，直到2007年9月，她用了整整一年的時間創作十二首歌曲，並按月將這些僅有輕鋼琴伴奏，接近清唱的歌曲上傳到網站上供全球各地的音樂創作者下載混音。而這種open source的做法也自然使得一首歌曲出現數以百計的remix版本，包含了ambient, rock, techno, 等等，各種音樂類型。

“I write one song a month. You remix and feedback. We make a record.” - 這樣簡單的三句話清楚地說明了Tamara的構想。在完成了十二首歌曲的創作，以及全球音樂人的brainstorming後，Tamara挑選了十二首混音版本並將其集結發行了Calendar Songs Vol. 1專輯。

在這十二個月份的故事之中，三月份是我的最愛，事情是這樣的...
Tamara的一位表演藝術家好友某天告訴她:
「如果哪天有條蛇跑進妳屋子裡，你應該在屋外擺一碗牛奶，如此一來蛇就會被那碗牛奶吸引過去並把牛奶喝掉，而蛇喝完牛奶後就會呼呼大睡了。」
在三月份苦思不得創作靈感的Tamara聽完這個瘋狂的理論後找不到任何不將「牛奶碗裡的蛇」寫進歌裡的理由。

Calendar Songs的概念絕對是有其歷史意義的，但在聽過幾十首的remix之後，我發現要將原曲完美地與自己的創作融合並非易事，因為原曲演唱時的情緒與節拍已經固定了，若無高超的混音技巧與創意是難有佳作的。長期而論，如此具實驗性質的創作或許還是只能停留在「實驗」的範疇，畢竟完美編曲的前提應該是對詞曲創作背景的透徹體會吧，誠如Tamara自己說的: “There are a lot of great remixes that I ended up not choosing because although they were amazing and inventive it didn’t feel like a reaction to the song itself.”。
